Worthington ends signings drought (Squad list updated)

They say a day is a long time in football, it’s even longer when it’s close season & there’s nothing to do! You become expectant & hungry for news, especially when, like us, you’ve a new manager in place stripping down the walls & 99% rebuilding the squad from scratch. Ten of these days are utter agony, in fact at one point it seemed an eternity since Forest Green Rovers’ Ross Dyer put pen to paper.
I did contemplate popping along to field mill, knocking on Mr Cox’s office door, and with crazed eyes (like an over worker needing a fix of caffeine) pleading with him to reveal a new signing! The men in white coats arrived and hurled me off for a night to Skeg-Vagas & my reward final came as the 10 day signings drought came to end by Paul Cox adding midfielder Jon Worthington to the squad.
28 year old Midfielder Jon joins us on a 1 year contract from Bradford City, however the knowledgeable amongst you will recognise the name as being part of the Huddersfield Town side which defeated us all those years ago in Cardiff.
Jon had a long stint at Huddersfield and skippered the side for four years before departing on loan to Yeovil Town, making 9 appearances & then moving onto Oldham in 2009. Loan spells at fellow BSBP side Fleetwood followed, plus a loan spell at Bradford which was made permanent in January of this year, the box to box midfielder has made over 300 career appearances.
Although it’s another Midfielder added to the ranks, the initial reaction to Paul Cox’s latest signing seems to be a positive one, and so far. I’m hearing nothing but good reports about him from Huddersfield supports plus those who’ve seen him more recently at Fleetwood.
Signing a players whose spent 99% of his career in the football league is another positive sign & gives us some more encouragement ahead of the next campaign, now the wait goes on for more signings which looks likely to be a defender, goalkeeper and of course, assistant manager.
The countdown also continues to the first pre-season friendly, just 19 days until a mixture of 1st team & academy players head for Rainworth MW.
